The shock news yesterday evening was that Clonbrien Hero, winner of the Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park in late July, has tested positive.

He returned a positive test for Benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, on three occasions during the competition. The matter will be passed on to the Control Committee which will conduct an inquiry.

A champion greyhound trained by Graham Holland, a British trainer and winner of the Irish Derby, has tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the principal metabolite of cocaine .

The winner of one of Ireland's premier greyhound races has tested positive for the Class A drug cocaine , according to the Irish Greyhound Board. Clonbrien Hero tested positive for the substance three times within a four week period, between 24 June and 22 July.

Clonbrien Hero, which earlier won the Produce Stakes at Clonmel, is trained by Graham Holland for Kay Murphy.

The semi-finals of the BoyleSports Irish Derby will be run on Saturday and the Holland-trained Sonic is the 9-4 favourite with Good News at 4-1, and 11-2 bar.

Meanwhile, there have been two defections from Saturday's BoyleSports Derby Plate semi-finals. Tyrur Hugo has been withdrawn from the first semi-final while Kilgraney Denver will be an absentee from the second heat.
