A couple have revealed how Ryanair turned their dream holiday into a nightmare when their plane was cancelled as they attempted to return to Dublin Airport .

Emer and Alan Marron, from Termonfeckin in Louth, both in their early 40s, were travelling by bus to Nice airport in France after a weekend break when they found out their flight home was axed.

An upset Emer told IrishMirror.ie: "From a Ryanair point of view, we got no help whatsoever, it was only the other passengers who offered us support. It was very hard".

The pair had been nervous to return home to their young kids, Aine (12) and Ben (9), who had been staying with family, so the couple had tried to see if they could catch another flight homr.

But when they arrived at the airport in France, their original flight had still been listed on the departures board, which only added to their confusion.

Alan said: "There was no sign of any reps for Ryanair, there was only an A4 sheet of paper at one desk with a Ryanair number scribbled on it.

"There was about 30 of us there and we were all trying to ring this number. It wasn’t getting us anywhere".

The couple had difficulties re-booking their flights, because all Ryanair and Aer Lingus flights had been booked up to Friday.

Alan’s brother ultimately helped the couple to book a new flight with Easyjet to Gatwick and a second with Ryanair back home to Dublin the next day.

The couple then faced an ordeal to find accommodation for the night.

The first hotel they tried was fully booked but thankfully, they were offered the last available room at another hotel.

They had to fork out €390 to cover the cost of accommodation and new flights.

Emer was due back to work on Weds and had to call her boss to say she was stranded.
