  Zoo closes for 'grieving' macaque troop An animal park has shut to give a troop of endangered lion-tailed macaques time to mourn the death of one of its youngest members. Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee has been closed since Friday afternoon to allow the monkeys to grieve and will not reopen until Thursday.The zoo announced on Facebook that it would close early "to work with some of our animals quietly" - and later informed followers that it would remain shut on Saturday.The tragic news was revealed in a Facebook post."On Friday morning our troop of lion-tailed macaques lost one of their young members who sadly passed away," it read.

The 16-year-old Rothschild giraffe was born in 2001 at Hamburg Zoo, and arrived at Fota in 2004.

Tadhg went on to father 23 calves during his 14 years in Cork, and a further 17 ‘grandchildren’, some of whom now take up residence in Belfast Zoo, Dublin Zoo and at other zoos in the UK.

Revealing the upsetting news on Wednesday, Fota explained, ‘Today we made the very sad announcement that Tadgh one of our Rothschild giraffes and a much-loved resident of Fota Wildlife Park passed away last night.

A spokesperson for the park has said that he died from suspected heart failure.

Rothschild giraffes are the most endangered subspecies of the Northern giraffes and are also the tallest.

They usually live for up to 20 years.
