Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of Abigael Conlon, the three-year-old girl killed in a crash in Kildare last Thursday.

Mourners poured into the Church of Mary Immaculate, Inchicore today in a bid to offer solidarity and sympathy to a family saying goodbye to their pride and joy.

Little Abigael Conlon died following a head-on crash in Co Kildare last Thursday when she was being driven to creche by her father.

As her tiny, white coffin was carried into the church, her grief-stricken father followed behind in a wheelchair and arm cast – remnants of the devastating crash.

Several children’s books were also laid near her coffin, along with a touching picture of the little girl.

Many mourners travelled from Cork to pay their respects to the respected family, who are natives of Fermoy.

Among them, included several affiliates from Fermoy Rowing Club, who wore their official jackets as a mark of solidarity.

As the funeral mass concluded, a lone vocalist filled the church with a poignant hymn.

Mourners struggled to hold themselves together as the small child’s coffin was then carried out of the Inchicore church.

Abigael was then laid to rest in Newland’s Cross Cemetery.

Abigail was the only child of Colm and his wife Amy, and locals have expressed how they are heartbroken for the family.

Their car was travelling towards Kilcullen, and the jeep it crashed with was going towards Brannockstown.

The crash occurred on a winding stretch of narrow road with hills and dips in it, and locals were critical of the condition of it. Although the cause of the accident is not yet known and is still being investigated, locals said there has been several bad crashes on it and it was “like a skating rink” on the morning of the crash.

She was rushed to Naas Hospital and later transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, but lost her battle for life on Sunday.
