The 15-year-old was last seen on Riviera del Sol in Mijas Costa, near Fuengirola, on New Year’s Day in 2008.

Amy was not officially reported missing until January 3 – and no trace of the Dubliner has ever been found.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Christine said: “Our Government should have been doing an awful lot more. They only did so much.

“There are some Government bodies that were very good but unfortunately they couldn’t go any further because [of restrictions]. But if our Government stood up for the right reasons and listened to the truth maybe things would be a bit different.

“Last year we were outside Dail Eireann, we did a candlelit vigil for Amy and were looking for the Government to do something with Amy’s case.

The lack of any progress has devastated the family and Christine believes Amy’s pink Nokia phone which she believes Spanish police have never obtained – could provide vital clues.

Christine continued: “There is vital evidence there and unfortunately they [the police] don’t seem to be picking up on it.

“It’s 10 years now and I think it’s about time a cold case should be set-up but apparently the [Spanish] Guardia Civil don’t have a cold case unit. If fresh eyes would come in it could give us some answers.”

Christine said she met up with some Sinn Fein representatives last year.

She added: “They want me to write every single thing down but that’s ridiculous? It needs to be taken to the European Parliament really to get any type of progress and something to happen.

“They say after seven years you should be able to have a cold case and it’s now 10 years and a month.
