Describing the encounter which took place in the TV3 studios, he said: ‘He seemed genuine… we sat down on a couch. We had two people from TV3 in the room.’

Mr Satchwell explained that he had contacted gardai before taking the meeting and added, ‘He held my hand, talking to me, and he says “I am 100 pc certain that on a date in January I was talking to your wife.

Richard Satchwell explained that the man described what Tina was wearing at the time, and although he didn’t recognise the clothing, he admitted that it would be something his wife would wear.

Gardai have been informed and they are now following up on the claims.

The search at the woods in Castlemartyr is expected to last a further three weeks.

It’s the second search that has been undertaken in the hunt for Tina, following an unsuccessful probe by the Garda Water Unit at Youghal quays in August 2017.
