A Dublin Fire Brigade paramedic was assaulted this morning while responding to a call in the city centre.

The incident happened when the fire service were called to assist a man on a bus on Abbey Street at 7.40am this morning.

They were helping the man on the 41 bus when he became aggressive and assaulted the paramedic, leaving them unconscious and with two front teeth knocked out.

The man has since been arrested for public order and assault offences and was taken to Store Street garda station.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "DFB were called to assist to a male on a bus on Abbey Street this morning the 10 of July 2018 at approx. 7.40am.

"Male became aggressive and assaulted the DFB paramedic. Gardai arrived and arrested male for public order and assault and was conveyed to Store Street Garda Station."
