A group of curry -loving British expats in France who yearned for a "proper Indian takeaway in France " have chartered their own plane, dubbed Emery hatched "hair-brained plan"/ "publicity stunt" with some friends and then sent out an invitation to other south west-based curry -loving Brits on Facebook.

Curry -hungry brits in the south of France have hatched a scheme to charter a flight from Portsmouth - all so they can get their favourite curry house to deliver .

In what is the ultimate act of dedication, a group of expats living in Bordeaux have chipped in to charter a plane to deliver them Indian food.James Emery and a group of curry -lovers living in the French city missed the cuisine so much that they teamed up with The Akash, an Indian restaurant in Portsmouth

A British curry addict who was missing his favourite spicy meal has arranged for his takeaway to be delivered to France.

Thanks to a massive delivery arranged through a Facebook group in December, pilot James Emery will be eating his favourite chicken phall curry on Saturday.

After a journey of nearly four hours, the expat and his friends collected their order in person on Saturday.

The group of 89 curry lovers have paid £32 each for their meal from the Akash takeaway, which will need to be reheated before being served.

London, January 10. British expatriates based in France have set a new takeaway trend for Indian food by chartering a flight to deliver their curry from the UK. The flight , dubbed “ Curry Air” by local media

The Akash restaurant in Portsmouth has now added a new section to its online delivery service: ‘ Curry by air’. On the page, curry -hungry brits can order a dish to be brought over on the flight and enjoyed as part of a evening at a small airfield.

Mr Emery, who is an aviation English assessor for trainee pilots in France, said: "I'm a chilli addict and an aviation geek so I thought I would combine my two hobbies to get my favourite meal to me in France."

"It was on one of these visits that Faz first floated the idea of delivering one to me at home in Bordeaux."

Owner of the Akash, Faz Ahmed, said: "We have done nothing like this, our delivery radius is three to four miles and we are doing 500 miles so it is something to be proud of."
