Turning his attention to other matters covered at the G7 summit, President Trump said countries looking to retaliate over trade would be "making a mistake" after he said the group was starting to be more committed to "fairer trade" for the United States.

"The United States has been taken advantage of for decades and decades," he said, before vowing to clamp down on "unfair foreign trading practices".

Trump warns Kim Jong Un on North Korea summit: 'It's a one-time shot'

Trump warns Kim Jong Un on North Korea summit: 'It's a one-time shot' President Trump on Saturday expressed optimism about his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but warned that the opportunity for Kim won’t happen again, calling it a “one-time shot.” Trump made his remarks in Charlevoix, Canada, at the end of the G-7 summit in a press conference as he prepared to depart for Singapore where he will meet with Kim on Tuesday to discuss issues such as North Korea denuclearization and an end to the Korean War.Trump expressed hope that the summit would be good for world peace but also for the dictatorship.

But, Trump warned, “he’ ll never have that opportunity again.” At the same press conference, the president also predicted he would know within the first “ minute ” of meeting Kim whether the North Korea leader was serious about denuclearization.

Still Trump forecast that he' ll know very quickly whether Kim is serious about dealing with U.S. demands. "They have to de-nuke," Trump said. "If they don't denuclearize that will not be acceptable.

He said he did not blame the G7 for trade deals but warned "those days are over".

Mr Trump also spoke about the US being "pretty close" to an agreement on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and was discussing two types of "sunset provisions" in which any of the countries could leave the deal.

He said the US would have either a better NAFTA agreement or two separate trade deals with Mexico and Canada.

The historic Singapore summit follows Mr Trump leaving the G7 collective early - after the group was dubbed "the G6 plus one" due to the billionaire tycoon's isolation over trade and his decision to pull the US out of the Iran nuclear deal.

However, he said the summit had been "really tremendously successful" and that the leaders were "bound together by shared values and beliefs".

Along with trade at the top of the agenda, President Trump said they talked about uncontrolled migration, the threat of Iran and extremism.

He also called for Russia to return to the group of world leaders once more, saying it would be "a positive thing" to move back to a G8.

"I think the G8 would be better. I think having Russia back in would be a positive thing," he said. "We're looking for peace in the world. We're not looking to play games."

The call came despite European members of the G7 rejecting Mr Trump's plea to reinstate Russia.
